Development site: The Peel Centre in Colindale
DETAILED plans to transform part of a police training centre in Colindale into new homes, a park and a primary school will be unveiled today.
Last July, Barnet Council’s planning committee approved proposals by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime to replace the outdated Peel Centre, in Aerodrome Road, with a smaller 20,000sq ft training facility.
The rest of the 73-acre site and remaining land has been earmarked for a housing development, a primary school and nursery, public spaces, a health centre and a supermarket.
Plans by developer Redrow London, which is also considering improvements to nearby Colindale Tube station, will be on display at a public exhibition at the nearby Royal Air Force Museum London, in Grahame Park Way, from 6.30pm to 8pm today, from 11am to 4pm tomorrow and from noon until 4pm on Sunday.
James Moody, managing director of Redrow London, said: “Our plan is to create an exciting new ‘heart’ for Colindale and a place that local people can call home with commensurate facilities that add value to their lives.
“At the first public exhibition in February, we asked local residents what they think makes a great community. We have listened and will be delivering everything a neighbourhood needs to flourish, including great pedestrian and cycle links, a park, cafes, shops and restaurants, a supermarket, a primary school, space for a health centre and other community facilities.”
Comments made at the public exhibitions will be used to help further shape the scheme before Redrow submits a planning application to the council early in the autumn. Information will also be available online at www.redrow colindale.com
